The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) was Kenya's primary-school leaving examination under the 8-4-4 education system. It ran from 1985 to 2023 and was used for progression to secondary education or training.

The Ministry's final 2023 release states that 26,067,181 candidates were examined through KCPE from 1985 through 2023.
2012 KCPE Results
KNEC's essential statistics record 819,353 registered candidates and 811,930 candidates who sat the 2012 examination. The candidates who sat comprised 415,620 boys and 396,310 girls across 22,786 examination centres. The accompanying official release speech, preserved here, reports that 416,900 candidates scored above 250 marks.
2014 KCPE Results
KNEC recorded 880,486 candidates in 24,260 examination centres in 2014. The cohort comprised 443,258 boys and 437,228 girls. Table 5 of its official statistics publication reports that 443,672 candidates scored 250 marks or below and 436,814 scored between 251 and 500.
Final KCPE Results in 2023
The Ministry described the 2023 examination as the final KCPE under the 8-4-4 system. A total of 1,406,557 candidates sat the examination at 28,533 centres.
The official 2023 results release also includes score bands, subject performance, special-needs participation, and examination-irregularity statistics.
