A Nakuru-based surgeon, Dr Magare Gikenyi, exposed the challenges faced by patients during the transition from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to the Social Health Authority (SHA) in a court appearance.

• 13,338,143 Kenyans have been registered with SHA as of October 28, 2024.
• Dr Gikenyi, along with Busia senator Okiya Omtatah, is petitioning the court to halt SHA's rollout due to inadequate patient access and financial strain on citizens.
• The Ministry of Health claims that the delays are financial, not related to the SHA system, and it has made Sh4.5 billion available to prevent service disruptions.
