Concerns are rising over unregistered agencies recruiting Kenyans for international sea jobs, threatening fair pay and working conditions.

• Only 6 out of 13 licensed manning agents have verifiable agreements with shipping lines.
• Andrew Mwangura, former General Secretary of the Seafarers Union of Kenya, warns of a similar scam from 2001 where Kenyans were conned out of fees for non-existent jobs.
• Mwangura calls for the Kenya Maritime Authority to conduct audits and create a public database of verified agents to protect job seekers.
