The High Court in Kenya has blocked the National Assembly from sending the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2025 to the President for assent following a request from the Katiba Institute.

Justice Lawrence Mugambi ruled that while the Assembly can debate and transmit the Bill to the Senate, it cannot proceed further.
The Bill aims to introduce three new funds to the Constitution and was first introduced on March 12, 2025.
The Katiba Institute claims the Bill is unnecessary and that its provisions may require a national referendum, which would necessitate a referendum law not enacted in 14 years.
