The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has announced a new directive allowing the importation of special-purpose motor vehicles that are older than eight years, provided they meet certain requirements.

• Special-purpose vehicles can now be imported if they have proof of customization and serviceability and are not more than 20 years old.
• The change modifies the existing KS 1515:2000 regulation, which prohibited such imports.
• Importers must adhere to detailed waiver requirements on the KEBS website to avoid shipment delays or clearance denials.
