The Judicial Service Commission, led by Chief Justice Martha Koome, has condemned the excessive use of force by police during the re-arrest of Peter Kinyanjui, a youth leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party, outside the Ruiru courts.

• On July 4, anti-riot police shot into the air to disperse a crowd during Kinyanjui's re-arrest.
• The JSC stated that the police's actions were "excessive, unjustified, and an affront to the authority and dignity of the Judiciary."
• The judiciary emphasized the importance of protecting courts as "sacred spaces of constitutional adjudication."
