Traders in the Mt Kenya region are facing significant losses due to widespread looting and property destruction during the Saba Saba protests on July 8.

• Damage is estimated in the millions across counties including Meru, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, and Nyeri.
• Peter Ndegwa, a trader from Nyeri, described the attackers as organized criminals rather than protestors.
• In Makutano, looters set fire to Magunas Supermarket, while Nice Nice, the largest rice mill in Mwea, was also attacked.
