The Chief Kadhi of Kenya, Sheikh Athman Abdulhalim Hussein, has passed away at his home in Mombasa. His death, which occurred last night, marks a sudden end to his role as head of the country's Kadhis' courts.

• Sheikh Abdulhalim was appointed in July 2023, following a recruitment process by the Judicial Service Commission.
• The announcement of his death was made by Sheikh Jamaludin Osman, the Imam of Jamia Mosque.
• He was chosen from five candidates to succeed Sheikh Ahmed Muhdhar, who retired after 12 years.
