The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has raised concerns over counterfeit electrical extension sockets that pose serious risks of electrocution and fire, following the seizure of over 24,000 substandard units at the Port of Mombasa.

• More than Ksh2.5 million worth of fake sockets were intercepted from a 16-metric-tonne container shipped from China.
• Esther Ngari, Managing Director at KEBS, emphasized the commitment to prevent substandard products from entering the country.
• The counterfeit extension sockets were found to lack essential safety features, increasing risks of electrical hazards and appliance damage.
