David Omwoyo, the Chief Executive Officer of Kenya's Media Council (MCK), has been elected as the new chairperson of the East African Press Council (EAPC).

• Omwoyo was elected on July 16 during the EAPC's Annual General Meeting in Arusha, Tanzania.
• This election occurred during the 2nd Pan Africa Media Council Summit, which assembled media leaders and policymakers.
• The new leadership aims to advocate for harmonized accreditation and conduct a state-of-the-media survey in the East African Community (EAC).
