Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji has filed a petition in the High Court against IG Douglas Kanja, DCI Director Mohamed Amin, and DPP Renson Ingonga for what he claims is an unlawful arrest during the recent Saba Saba protests.

• July 7, 2025: Mukunji was arrested alongside journalist James Ikuwa Mbochi and boda boda rider Stanley Mbuthia Wanjiru by approximately 40 police officers.
• Mukunji alleges the charges were politically motivated and misappropriated under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
• He claims his detention is part of a broader effort to suppress dissent against the government.
