The government of Kenya has announced significant changes to its education funding, indicating it can no longer sustain free primary and secondary education due to fiscal constraints.

• The capitation grant for secondary schools will decrease from Ksh22,244 to Ksh16,900 per child.
• John Mbadi, the Treasury Cabinet Secretary, stated that the government is also considering imposing registration fees for national exams.
• The overall budget for the education sector is proposed at Ksh702.7 billion, which is nearly 28% of the Ksh4.29 trillion national budget.
