A 23-year-old Lamu man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the repeated defilement of a 14-year-old Grade 9 pupil. The verdict was delivered by Principal Magistrate Peter Wasike at the Lamu Law Courts.

• Lukman Ismail Athman, alias Jelal, was convicted under the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006 for offenses committed between November 14 and 24, 2024, in the Paradise area of Langoni Location.
• The court heard that the victim’s mother had offered Athman shelter, and the abuse began after a visitor, his cousin, departed. The boy testified that Athman threatened to kill him if he spoke out.
• The victim’s and his mother’s impact statements detailed the profound emotional toll, leading to the mother’s second divorce and the boy’s isolation. Prosecution Counsel Idris Kipruto Tomno presented a case supported by nine witnesses.
