The Kenyan government has again increased the minimum price of sugarcane, raising it from Ksh5,500 to Ksh5,750 per tonne. This marks the second price hike in two months, aiming to boost earnings for struggling farmers.
- The new price, approved by the 4th Interim Sugarcane Pricing Committee, takes effect on Monday, July 21.
- The Principal Secretary for Agriculture, Kipronoh Rono, directed all sugar millers, including Kibos Sugar & Allied Industries and Mumias Sugar, to implement the new minimum price immediately.
- This latest increase brings the total increment within four months to Ksh500 per tonne, a 9.5 percent rise since April.
