Uasin Gishu County in Kenya has made a historic first by exporting 50 Ayrshire in-calf heifers to Nigeria's Ogun State on July 25, in a move aimed at boosting the local livestock industry and empowering farmers.

• 50 in-calf Ayrshire heifers, renowned for having some of the best genetics in East Africa, were sourced from farmers in Uasin Gishu County.
• The export was facilitated by Uasin Gishu County Government, with the cattle flown from Eldoret International Airport. Chief Officer for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Abraham Kiptalam, highlighted the significant economic impact for farmers.
• Uasin Gishu County is looking to harness the potential of its superior livestock genetics, with previous exports to Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania. Saudi Arabia has also expressed interest.
