The Kenyan government has integrated the HPV vaccine into routine immunization for girls aged 9 to 14, intensifying its fight against cancer. This move, part of a broader decentralization of cancer care services, was announced during the 2nd National Cancer Summit in Nairobi.
- The cost of HER2-positive treatment (Herceptin) has been reduced from Ksh 120,000 to Ksh 40,000 per session and is now fully covered by the Social Health Authority (SHA).
- Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale outlined reforms under the Taifa Care model, including strengthening referral systems and expanding diagnostic services via the National Equipment Support Programme (NESP).
- The SHA now provides annual coverage of up to Ksh 550,000 for cancer care, while regional cancer centers are being decentralized to locations like Nairobi, Eldoret, Kiambu, Mombasa, Garissa, and Nakuru.
