After 14 years on death row in Saudi Arabia, Stephen Munyakho has returned home to Kenya. His release was secured after intense diplomatic efforts and the family of the deceased agreed to accept diyya (blood money) of approximately Sh129 million.

• The diyya payment, totaling over Sh129 million, averted Munyakho's death sentence, which was initially scheduled for May 2024.
• The Government of Kenya, led by President William Ruto and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, played a crucial role in diplomatic interventions, including direct engagement with Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.
• Munyakho was convicted in 2013 for the killing of a Yemeni colleague, an act he claims was self-defense after being attacked.
