Tanzania has banned foreigners, including many Kenyans, from operating 15 small- and medium-sized businesses across various sectors, a move announced by Minister for Industry and Trade, Selemani Saidi Jafo. This decision aims to reserve these economic activities for Tanzanian citizens.

• The prohibited businesses include mobile money transfers, phone repairs, salon services (with exceptions), small-scale mining, and farming.
• Foreigners found violating the ban face a fine of up to Tsh10 million (Ksh502,927) and a prison term of up to six months.
• The ban follows Tanzania's earlier announcement of a mandatory Ksh5,700 travel insurance for most foreign tourists starting January 2026.
