The High Court in Eldoret has sentenced two former police officers, Emmanuel Wafula Barasa and Godwine Wekesa Sirengo, to 35 years in prison each for the murder of 21-year-old Dennis Lusava. The officers tortured Lusava to death in police custody at Mbururu Police Post, Kakamega County, and then dumped his body in River Nzoia to conceal the crime.

• Dennis Lusava died on October 7, 2020, from severe internal injuries after being assaulted by the officers.
• The officers attempted to conceal the death by falsifying the Occurrence Book and dumping Lusava's body, which was found four days later in River Nzoia.
• Justice Reuben Nyakundi ruled the murder was committed with malice aforethought and that the officers acted with common intention.
