The parents of a one-year-old boy from Kajiado County were allegedly assaulted after their son was wrongfully admitted to a private clinic in Eastleigh, Nairobi, despite being referred to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH). The child's health deteriorated following a routine surgery at a Kajiado facility, where a surgeon allegedly demanded Ksh5,000 for a catheter and the baby subsequently overdosed on anesthesia, leading to a coma.

• A transfer to KNH was necessitated after the child's heart stopped twice, for which the mother borrowed Ksh50,000 for the transfer.
• The ambulance transporting the child made a detour to the private Eastleigh facility, where hospital staff denied the parents access to their child, who is in the Intensive Care Unit, due to mounting bills.
• The father was assaulted for asking to see his baby, and a video reportedly shows a hospital administrator slapping the mother for the same reason. Both facilities have denied responsibility.
