A Malindi court has approved the exhumation of suspected shallow graves in the Binzaro area of Malindi, linked to a suspected religious cult. The order allows the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to conduct postmortem examinations, DNA testing, and toxicological analysis to determine causes of death, as investigators suspect multiple individuals were murdered through starvation and suffocation.

• Approximately 11 suspects are under investigation for their alleged involvement in organised crime, radicalisation, and murder.
• The court directed Chief Pathologist to carry out the exhumation, with security provided by Malindi Police Division and Lango Baya Police Station.
• The cult is suspected to have links with the Shakahola religious cult led by Paul Mackenzie, where 400 bodies were exhumed in 2023.
