Eight Kenyan counties will receive the majority share of a Ksh16.8 billion Equalisation Fund windfall after Members of Parliament approved appropriations for the 2025/2026 financial year. This funding aims to address regional disparities and promote equitable development in marginalized areas across 34 counties.

• Turkana County will receive the largest share at Ksh1.86 billion, followed by West Pokot at Ksh1.7 billion and Narok at Ksh1.3 billion.
• The Equalisation Fund Appropriation Bill ensures funds are transferred to special-purpose accounts at the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), not County Revenue Funds (CRF), to safeguard accountability.
• The Ksh16.8 billion comprises Ksh6.2 billion rolled over from 2024/2025 and Ksh10.6 billion earmarked for the current year, providing additional support to counties beyond their regular allocations.
