Kenya has officially protested Tanzania's new regulations restricting foreigners from engaging in 15 categories of small-scale business activities, warning that the move undermines regional economic integration efforts. The orders, issued by President Samia Suluhu's government, prevent licensing authorities from renewing licenses for businesses like mobile money transfers and beauty salons.

• The new order is inconsistent with EAC Common Market Protocol Articles 13(1), 13(3)a, 13(5), 13(8) and 13(9), which guarantee free movement of persons, services, and right of establishment.
• East African Community Principal Secretary Caroline Karugu criticized the heavy penalties for flouting the directive, including a fine of not less than Tsh10 million (about Sh500,000) or a six-month jail term.
• Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi stated that President Ruto would address the issue with President Suluhu "diplomatically."
