✨ Key Highlights
Kenya has been recognized as a continental leader in climate-smart agriculture, particularly in regenerative farming, according to the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) 2024 Annual Report. This success is largely attributed to a multi-stakeholder approach and the Sustainable Transitioning of Agriculture for Resilient and Adaptable Kenya (STRAK) project, significantly boosting food security for smallholder farmers.
- More than 90% of surveyed farmers in Embu, Makueni, Tharaka Nithi, and Kitui counties now practice regenerative methods.
- The STRAK project is a partnership between the IKEA Foundation, Kenya’s Ministry of Agriculture, Cereal Growers Association, Farm Africa, and CIFOR World Agroforestry.
- In Kitui, returns on investment reached Sh5.27 for every KES 1 spent, while Tharaka Nithi saw nearly tripled sorghum yields.
