The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has clarified that healthcare facilities recently closed or downgraded must wait at least 90 days before appealing these decisions. This waiting period allows facilities to address identified issues.

• Appeals for closures, partial closures, or downgrades will only be addressed after 90 days to ensure facilities rectify deficiencies.
• David Kariuki, CEO of KMPDC, stated this measure is to allow facilities to comprehensively resolve all identified gaps.
• Facilities wishing to update their assigned bed capacity must submit a written request for inspection by August 8 to the official compliance email.
• This follows a crackdown in June where KMPDC closed 728 health facilities countrywide, including 394 in Nairobi, for non-compliance.
• President William Ruto later revealed on July 3 that at least 1,000 health facilities had been closed for perpetrating fraud related to the Social Health Authority (SHA).
