Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has hinted at leaving the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) if party leadership blocks his proposed internal reforms. Natembeya, a co-founder and deputy leader of DAP-K, stresses the need for the party to gain broader national appeal.

• Natembeya cited his democratic right to defect to another party or form a new one if reform efforts continue to be blocked by DAP-K leadership, including party leader Eugene Wamalwa.
• The wrangles began after Natembeya urged the party to rebrand and expand beyond Western Kenya, leading to a petition by some members to expel him.
• Eugene Wamalwa advised Natembeya against exiting on August 1, challenging him to face Wamalwa through party nominations for the Presidential ticket.
