Haitian gang leader Jimmy “Barbecue” Cherizier has vowed to attack the Prime Minister's office and other government buildings to overthrow the transitional government amidst an intensifying conflict. This comes as the country prepares for a leadership transition on Thursday, August 7, and follows an attack that injured three officers of the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM).

• Jimmy "Barbecue" Cherizier, leader of the "Viv Ansanm" gang coalition, threatened to seize government offices ahead of a planned leadership rotation within the Presidential Transitional Council.
• An early morning attack on Thursday, August 7, injured three MSSM officers, predominantly Kenyan police officers, after their armored vehicles became stuck in gang-dug trenches in Kenscoff.
• Haiti has been in political chaos since the 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Moise, with gangs controlling 90 per cent of the capital and over 3,137 people murdered this year, according to the United Nations.
