The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has revoked a Private Initiated Proposal to build the Nairobi-Mombasa (Usahihi) expressway. This decision came after the proposal failed to meet the necessary criteria for approval.
- The mega road project was planned as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), covering a 459-km corridor.
- The PPP Committee, National Treasury & Economic Planning directed the contractor to consider restructuring the project by expanding the existing A8 highway.
- The project was reportedly awarded to the Korean firm Korean Overseas Infrastructure and Development Corporation (KIND) after US firm Bechtel Engineering rejected the proposed financing model.
