After weeks of internal wrangling, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, the deputy party leader of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), has called for unity within the party. This move follows his earlier hints about forming a new political party.

• Natembeya urged party officials to resolve issues peacefully at a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, August 12, attended by party leader Eugene Wamalwa.
• He emphasized the importance of a strong DAP-K presence in the Western region to secure the support of 4.5 million voters.
• Previously, Natembeya had threatened to leave DAP-K if proposed reforms, including rebranding, were not adopted, while Wamalwa had publicly invited him to contest for the presidential ticket within the party.
