The Nigerian air force has conducted successful air and ground raids in Zamfara state, killing scores of “bandits” believed to be responsible for high-profile kidnappings and attacks in the region. The operation targeted a hideout in Makakkari forest following intelligence of an impending attack on a village.

• Scores of gunmen, including several notorious bandit kingpins, were killed.
• The Nigerian air force, led by Air force spokesperson Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, carried out the operation.
• The raids occurred after surveillance detected more than 400 gang members preparing to attack a village, and come after various armed gangs have killed scores and kidnapped many, with 13 security personnel also losing their lives in recent weeks.
