• Stephen Marubu was shot dead on Tuesday, August 13, while protesting the killing of Michael Muiruri, a 31-year-old vendor shot by a guard on Friday, August 8, at a pineapple plantation in Gatwekera, Murang'a.
• The KHRC stated that Michael Muiruri was allegedly killed by a guard contracted by Del Monte Kenya over accusations of pineapple theft.
• The KHRC critiqued President William Ruto's regime, stating this killing shows a "lack of genuine commitment" to ending sensible violence, despite the recent establishment on August 8 of a framework to compensate victims of protests between 2017 and 2025.
