The Rural and Urban Private Hospitals Association of Kenya (RUPHA) has issued an ultimatum to Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, demanding immediate payment of National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) arrears by September 9. This comes after 162 days of unfulfilled promises since President William Ruto's directive on March 5 to settle the debts, leaving hospitals unable to provide services.

• RUPHA is demanding a formal written commitment to pay verified NHIF claims of Ksh10 million and below by September 9, 2025.
• The crisis deepened after the High Court in Eldoret declared the NHIF Pending Bills Verification Committee unconstitutional, disrupting the Ministry of Health's process for claims between July 2022 and September 2024.
• No healthcare facility—public, private, or faith-based—has received payment, despite CS Duale's earlier promise of Ksh5.3 billion allocated by the National Treasury for claims under Ksh10 million.
