The Kenyan government plans to establish a disaster recovery site for the eCitizen digital payment platform to safeguard public funds and ensure uninterrupted service. This initiative comes after an Auditor-General report flagged accountability gaps and potential misuse of billions of shillings on the platform.

• Over 5,000 government services are housed on the eCitizen platform, which experienced a major disruption in 2024.
• Principal Secretary for Immigration and Citizen Services, Belio Kipsang, announced the plan during a briefing with the Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security on August 15, 2025.
• During the discussion, the eTA rollout, replacing traditional visa processes, was also confirmed to be implementing smoothly, alongside the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration (Amendment) Bill 2025 concerning stateless persons.
