The Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) Power-run Nyambunde small hydropower (SHP) plant in Kisii County has been connected to the national grid through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Kenya Power. This integration allows the plant to earn additional revenue from selling excess electricity.

• The two-megawatt (MW) plant, commissioned in December 2023, previously supplied power to Ogembo, Kiamokama, and Itumbe tea factories.
• Nyakwana Power Company owns the project, with nine KTDA-managed tea factories and KTDA Power Company Ltd as shareholders.
• This is one of six operational power plants managed by KTDA Power, with a combined installed capacity of 17MW, supplying 17 tea factories and significantly reducing electricity costs, which account for about 15 percent of tea production expenses.
