Thousands of motorists and passengers were stranded overnight on the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway on Sunday night due to a massive traffic jam. This critical transport corridor connecting the capital to western Kenya experienced a complete standstill between Naivasha Prisons and the Keroche area, exacerbated by heavy rains.

• The gridlock on Sunday was one of several recent incidents, following similar disruptions on the same highway on Thursday and the Nairobi–Mai Mahiu–Naivasha highway on Friday.
• Reports indicate the traffic snarl-up, which on Friday began around 9 p.m., was mainly caused by motorists' failure to adhere to traffic rules, leading to overlapping and lane indiscipline.
• The gridlock on the Nairobi–Mai Mahiu–Naivasha highway spanned over 21 kilometres, completely blocking the single carriageway in both directions.
