President William Ruto arrived in Yokohama, Japan, for the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9). His visit aims to strengthen Kenya-Japan relations and secure support for key development projects.

• Among the prioritised discussions are the expansion of Mombasa Port, the Mombasa Port Area Road Development, the Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone, and upgrades to Nairobi's urban transport system.
• President Ruto is accompanied by First Lady Rachel Ruto and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
• The conference, led by the Government of Japan, is being held from August 20 to August 22, 2025.
