Africa is being urged to enhance its sustainability reporting to align with global standards, as discussions on coordinated action and strengthened governance took center stage at the IFAC Connect: Africa 2025 summit in Nairobi. The event highlighted the urgency for economies to adopt environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.
- By June 2025, at least 36 jurisdictions had adopted the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards, setting a global precedent for comparability.
- Kenya has a phased roadmap for adopting these standards, with voluntary application since January 2024 and mandatory compliance for public interest entities expected by 2027.
- ICPAK Chairperson Prof Elizabeth Kalunda stated that hosting the summit cements Kenyaβs role as a regional leader in governance and sustainability.
