The Kenyan government, through Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, has detailed its plan to settle delayed pension payments for former Kenya Railways staff. The strategy hinges on utilizing land assets for a major housing project.

• The Kenya Railways Staff Retirement Benefit Scheme (KRSRBS) will be compensated by the Affordable Housing Board acquiring approximately 141 acres of land in the Makongeni area.
• The scheme previously operated on a non-contributory basis, relying on investments rather than monetary contributions.
• Mbadi also proposed that former councillors, numbering 328, who lack a legal framework for compensation, receive Ksh2,000 monthly through the Inua Jamii system instead of a Ksh200,000 honorarium.
