The mistake, acknowledged by KRA as an error, led to taxpayers receiving penalty notifications despite timely submission within the extended window.

• KRA confirmed the process of penalty removal for those who filed between July 1 and July 5, 2024, is complete.
• The tax authority extended the deadline after its system experienced technical difficulties on June 30, the original filing deadline.
• As of June 30, approximately 81 per cent of the 9.9 million eligible taxpayers had filed their returns.
