On World Humanitarian Day, Raphael Kariuki, Africa Regional Director for Terre des Hommes Netherlands, highlighted the dire situation of children in Ethiopia, urging renewed global solidarity to combat child exploitation amidst ongoing crises. Over 800,000 children are severely impacted by conflict, displacement, drought, and floods.

  • Over 8 million children are out of school in Ethiopia due to emergencies, increasing risks of child labor and exploitation.
  • Terre des Hommes Netherlands, through the Ethiopia Joint Response (EJR) program, reached 11,725 people, including 41% children, with multi-purpose cash transfers and protection services in 2024.
  • The EJR program runs from 2024 to 2026, strengthening child protection systems and building community resilience in Amhara and Borana Zones.
