Former Laikipia North MP Mathew Lempurkel Lekidime has died weeks after being admitted to the Kenyatta National Hospital's ICU following a road accident. He sustained critical injuries six days prior to his passing while heading home in Ong'ata Rongai.

• Lempurkel had been battling for his life since the crash at the Exciting area.
• He was previously sentenced to one year in prison in 2021 for assaulting current Laikipia North MP Sarah Korere in 2016.
• Known for advocating Maa rights, he recently switched from the Orange Democratic Movement to the United Democratic Alliance in November 2023.
