The Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU-K) has demanded full autonomy for the Social Health Authority’s (SHA) IT systems, accusing the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Digital Health Authority (DHA) of interference. Secretary General Francis Atwoli stated that COTU believes SHA’s current reliance on external IT systems prevents it from verifying claims and exercising its independence.

• COTU has made repeated but unsuccessful attempts to meet with Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale over the past month.
• COTU contends that SHA cannot adequately address problems or control payments without governing its own technological infrastructure.
• SHA recently removed its public portal for reviewing hospital payments and the Kenya Master Health Facility Registry (KMHFR), fueling criticism amidst ongoing concerns of fraud.
