In response to recent healthcare system setbacks, including a multi-billion-shilling scandal at the Social Health Authority (SHA), Kenya and the United States Government have established a joint Technical Working Group to bolster Kenya’s healthcare infrastructure and financing.

• The decision follows a meeting between Cabinet Secretaries John Mbadi (Treasury) and Aden Duale (Health) with a US Government delegation on Wednesday, August 26.
• The Working Group will focus on sustainable health financing, digitisation of health systems, and combating fraud within bodies like the SHA.
• The initiative comes after CS Duale confirmed widespread fraud at SHA, leading to the suspension of 45 hospitals involved in irregular activities.
