A new investigation supported by the Pulitzer Centre has revealed that Artificial Intelligence (AI) companies are exploiting Kenyans seeking remote work through "ghost jobs." These companies are allegedly using mass recruitment tactics to inflate workforce numbers without providing meaningful work or pay, leading to a "labour hedging" strategy.

• Up to 10,000 members were recorded by one AI company, with many doing little to no work.
