The impeachment motion against Kericho Governor Erick Mutai has sparked controversy in the Senate, with his defense challenging the legitimacy of the voting process by Members of the County Assembly (MCAs).

• The defense team, led by lawyer Katwa Kigen, argued that MCAs received login credentials via SMS using only their ID and payroll numbers, lacking secure passwords.
• Sigowet MCA Kiprotich Rogony, who sponsored the motion, denied allegations of logging in and voting on behalf of a colleague, and refuted claims from a clip of him offering Sh200,000 and foreign trips for an affidavit.
• Some senators suggested recalling Kericho MCAs to the Senate for a fresh vote to resolve the issue.
