Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has stated he has not yet approved proposals for the planned Rironi–Mau Summit highway expansion, despite discussions being in advanced stages. The 175-kilometre project, estimated to cost Ksh200 billion, will proceed as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
- Two companies have submitted proposals, with China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) making a joint bid with the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
- The project aims to expand the road to four lanes, easing congestion and enhancing regional trade.
- Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) commenced stakeholder engagement on August 21, with meetings scheduled in Kiambu, Nyandarua, and Nakuru counties from September 2 to September 8.
