Kenya has affirmed its dedication to regional health security by supporting the launch of the IGAD Pandemic Preparedness and Response Initiative in Uganda on August 29, 2025. This initiative aims to bolster the region's ability to detect, respond to, and manage future pandemics effectively, drawing lessons from past health crises like COVID-19.

• Kenya's commitment was expressed by Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, at the Speke Munyonyo Resort Conference Centre.
• The initiative will strengthen healthcare infrastructure, surveillance systems, and community engagement, aligning with Kenya’s second National Action Plan for Health Security.
• PS Muthoni emphasized the critical role of cross-border cooperation, particularly in Kenya’s northern and western corridors, for joint surveillance and harmonized travel guidance.
