Kenya’s vital agricultural export sector experienced a significant downturn in June, with coffee, flower, and vegetable earnings dropping sharply. This decline, detailed in a new report from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), signals a challenging period for the nation’s economy.

• Coffee exports plummeted from 7.4 thousand metric tonnes (MT) in May 2025 to just 4.6 thousand MT in June, with earnings falling from KSh 7.4 billion to KSh 4.5 billion, compounded by the Nairobi Coffee Exchange being closed.
• Fresh cut-flower exports decreased to 10.7 thousand MT, with earnings dropping from KSh 7.9 billion to KSh 6.7 billion, while vegetable exports fell with earnings declining from KSh 1.9 billion to KSh 1.5 billion.
• The report noted that fruit exports saw a slight volume drop but were the only category to experience an increase in earnings, providing a minor positive in an otherwise bleak agricultural export outlook for June 2025.
