Despite the government's recent payment of 40 per cent of funds owed to contractors to resume road construction nationally, contractors in Central Kenya report that land ownership disputes are significantly hindering major road projects, including the Kenol-Sagana-Marua Highway.

• The National Land Commission (NLC) has paid Ksh3.3 billion in compensation, but an additional Ksh1.6 billion is outstanding due to land documentation and succession issues.
• Deputy Engineer for Mau Mau roads, James Nguyo, stated that work continues on dispute-free sections, targeting seven kilometres of the highway by December.
• This follows Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir's announcement regarding the un-stalling of over 580 road projects nationwide after resolving contractor payments.
