Kenya and Uganda have committed to eliminating trade barriers, including tariff and non-tariff restrictions, following a bilateral meeting between President William Ruto and President Yoweri Museveni in Nairobi from July 30-31, 2025.

• Ministers of trade from both nations were directed to urgently address bottlenecks affecting cross-border business and align commitments with the East African Community (EAC) treaty.
• Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry Lee Kinyanjui (Kenya) and Minister for Trade Gen. Wilson Mbasu (Uganda) agreed to ease congestion at major border points, including clearing truck congestion at the Malaba border within 24 hours.
• The agreement aims to boost bilateral trade and enhance regional integration, addressing historical issues like customs delays and restrictions on agricultural goods.
